When The Bough Breaks ( movie review)

I have been anticipating this movie all year, simply because the trailer was absolutely bomb and it pulled me in. The movie has this slow and mellow vibe throughout the majority of the movie, but the last 20 or so minutes are pretty intense.

If you have not scene the trailer, check it out below.

The title of the movie “When The Bough Breaks” comes from the lullaby “Rock A Bye Baby”

Rock a bye baby on a tree top, when the wind blows the cradle will rock. When the the BOUGH breaks, the cradle will fall, and down will come baby cradle and all.

Now that I’m older I think this is a pretty dumb lullaby. The tune and harmony are dope but why are we singing about a baby falling out of a tree. That’s kind of disturbing if you think about it. Also if  you did not know a BOUGH is a tree branch.

The movie starts off with showing scenes from the city that the movie is set in. I see lots of water, a big river, and the sight of an infamous superdome and whispered to my girlfriends that this movie was set in one my favorite cities ” New Orleans”. What kind of southern belle would I be if I did not recognize such a great city. Seeing that it was set in Louisiana got me even more hyped up.

The movie focuses on a beautiful Black Couple who are not able to have children. The husband who is played by Ricky from boys in the hood ” government name” Sexy DARK CHOCOLATE Morris Chestnut. I have this thing with movies. Whatever movie I first see you in, you will forever be known to me as that character. That’s why Morris is Ricky to me and the wife in this movie is that weird black girl from the Scary Movie series ” Regina Hall”.

The young lady the couple chooses to be their surrogate is new to the scene and will forever be known to me as that crazy girl from “When The Bough Breaks” her name is Jaz Sinclair ( she’s known as ANNA in the movie) * just found out her government name is *JASMINE SABINO* and y’all she played the hell out of that role. I would have probably chosen her to be my baby mama (oops) I mean my surrogate as well. She was so convincing in the role both to the couple and to the audience. Overall things do not go as smooth or as well as we wish it would have been and there are a few twists and turns within the movie. One of the things I loved the most was the way that Morris was so committed to his wife. I felt like I could feel the love that he had for her and that ladies and gentlemen is what I would like to call some good acting.

After Anna gets pregnant she develops love for Morris, hence the fact that the boy is mine is playing in one of the trailers. She really thinks that she deserves to have this man all to herself, but things get messy and ish hits the fan towards the later part of the movie.

I will say I look forward to what’s to come in Jaz Sinclair’s future and she ‘s one heck of an actress. Homegirl had me buying into her craziness and I legitimately was getting pissed at her character and wanted to fight her myself for being so damn mean and evil. KUDOs Jaz you killed it.

I did not particularly like the ending, because it leaves the viewer with a lot of questions. Like what exactly happened. I do not want to give to much away, I’m just going to say in my mind the couple lived happily ever after with their baby. I enjoyed the movie, it was great to watch. Make sure you go check it out and that’s all I have for y’all.
