Women are the giver of life but throughout time of the two genders women have routinely been policed and suppressed. From how we dress, to the image we are allowed to give off, or what we do with our own bodies we are always being told what to do or how we should conduct ourselves. We are still fighting to this day to fully be free and liberated due to the fact that the MAN feels as if they possess some type of ownership of women in society.
Year by year women take back the reigns of who they are and the POWER that lives within.
One way of doing this is by embracing and celebrating being sexually liberated. This is done by living their life in a carefree manner, calling out the misogyny that exists within society and even rapping/singing about it.
The song entitled “WAP” recently released by rapper Cardi B (Belcalis Alamazar) and Megan Thee Stallion (Megan Pete) has ruffled some feathers and upset a few irrelevant people. “WAP” became the number one song in the world about 24 hours after its release.
The uproar stems from people literally being upset that TWO BLACK WOMEN had the audacity to make a song about sex, how they like it, what they want from sex, and who can give it to them.
Let me first tell you the meaning of “WAP” Now when I first saw that the song was coming out and that the promo was a depiction of the two women rocking 90s style updos I was under the impression that “WAP” was going to be related to the Black Film featuring Halle Berry that was called BAPS which stood for “Black American Princesses” but it turns out that I was definitely off the mark with that assumption. “WAP” stands for “WET A$$ PU$$Y” and the song title alone makes a lot of people uncomfortable and upset. Honestly I do not understand the controversy around the title being that y’alls current President aka 46 minus one used the term PU$$Y to make a statement that insinuated that women should be sexually assaulted and used that particular P word.
Majority of the individuals who are bothered by the song are men who do not fit the description of what is being described in the song, insecure women who are uncomfortable with their sexuality, women who cant relate to macaroni in the pot, and salty republicans.
Sex continues to be a taboo subjected especially when it comes to women being verbal about the details to include what they like about it and the pleasure associated with it. SEX is a big part of our lives I wouldn’t be writing this piece if someone didn’t partake in it and you wouldn’t be reading it if someone had not had sex therefore singing about it and talking about it should be NORMAL especially for women.
Men routinely talk about what they desire in a woman specifically BLACK MEN. Some of the descriptions have been centered around a woman who is of lighter complexion, exotic looking, long hair, small waist, big butt, and a woman who has no problem catering to his want and needs. In “WAP” the rappers describe wanting a man who can please them sexually, is financially stable, and who meets a certain size requirements.
Let’s run through the theatrics of the video which were quite entertaining. The track starts off with a sample from the song “Whores In This House” by Frank Ski which can be heard continuously throughout the song. The video zooms in onto a house that is leaking water which ties back to the title of the song. Outside theres a statue depicting Cardi and Megan in the infamous squat that rapper “Lil Kim” made famous back in the 90s which once again contributes to the 90s theme that has been displayed.
Cardi B and Megan spit their sexual lyrics while in colorful attire and scenes that depict animal print. The purple and lime green scene gives off Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Vibes. Meanwhile Cardi Raps while hitting a split in cheetah print while Megan does the same while rocking Zebra Print.
For me personally Megan’s rapping was more appealing and it was her natural body that did it for me. Not to take anything from Cardi B but in my opinion THEE STALLION won the rapping and sexy battle. Overall they both looked great. Additionally Cardi B definitely had me chuckling when she stated I want you to park that big Mack truck right in this little garage and I want you to touch that lil’ dangly thing that swing in the back of my throat. She had me rolling with that one.
The video also featured appearances from fellow MCs Rubi Rose, Normani, and Sukihana.
Overall the video was great except for the part featuring Kylie Jenner the Kolonizer. I was not a fan of her especially with her having a history of culture appropriating Black Culture on a consistent basis I also can’t get this look out my mind
She literally changed her whole face and has a build a body. She does look great I wont take that away from her but they could have definetely left out the “Culture Vulture”
Some fans were so against Kylie that a petition was created to remove her.
Okay back to the topic at hand. SEX SALES point blank period. When has a female rapper truly been able to rap about intellectual things and it actually sales. In all honesty Cardi B and Megan are rapping about what the people want to hear. The fact that the song is number 1 in the World in such a short time should be enough to back up the song.
Women should be allowed to rap or sing about whatever they want. If you want to critique a musician focus that attention on the male rapper that routinely degrade women, encourage violence, rape and other acts that have been deemed illegal. There are plenty of songs by men that are sexual in nature that society has chosen to remain silent on such as The Whisper Song by the Ying Yang Twins, Tip Drill by Nelly, Shake Ya A$$ by Mystikal, anything by the 2 Live Crew, etc. How about you critique them first before coming for women.
Looks like the Strip Club anthem list just grew and the 90s updos are about to make a come back
Cardi and Meg have the whole world talking all because of the POWER of the WAP 👏🏾 Ladies find your inner voice and let these men know what it is that you want
I’m looking forward to the “WAP” Remix if there is one I know it’s going to be fire 🔥.
Remember To Always Be
Fierce and Fabulous
