Recently it was announced that Jennifer Lopez would be doing a Motown tribute during the 61st Annual Grammys Awards Show (Recording Academy).
I am so confused yall, like why is this even a thing. Out of all the phenomenal BLACK artists that we have on the scene we going with JLO. Seriously we are going to partake in disrespecting our Motown living legends in such a horrendous manner. Smokie Robinson, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, the last of the Temptations, and the other living Motown legends did not ask for this disrespect. When I think of Motown I think of soulful ballards. Ballards that shake me to the core and voices that soothe and move me and JLO does not possess that ability. I am sorry but let us not fake the funk. Look JLO is a great actress, she’s a beautiful woman, she got a few dance moves, and has an amazing body but she cannot accurately pay homage paying homage to our MoTown greats. Grammy folks why didn’t yall ask Beyoncé come on now.
What happened to Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Anthony Hamilton, Faith Evans, Ledisi, India Arie, Patti Labelle, John Legend, H.E.R. Hell Cardi B at least claims Afro Latino she would be better ( lol ) I’m playing yall I’m playing No Cardi B in this one. What JLo should have done was gracefully stayed in her lane, declined and pointed whoever asked her to the direction of the capable BLACK music artist who can actually pull this Motown Tribute off. Her choosing to accept this performance shows how she does not respect the BLACK community our roots and our heritage.
The disrespect that’s about to be shown towards the BLACK community during black history month should not be tolerated. I am so tempted to boycott the Grammys if they let this performance happen. Every year its something controversial concerning the Grammys and disrespecting black people. I will still never get over Beyoncé being snubbed album of the year TWICE. Therefore, my deciding factor will be if I do not see Beyoncé on the red carpet I’m not watching the Grammys, POINT BLANK PERIOD. If the Queen Boycotts so will I. Yo Grammys yall need to fix this Motown Tribute RIGHT NOW
