The Miss America 2016 pageant was held in Atlantic City, NJ. I like to consider this particular pageant system to be ( the girl next door ). There’s a distinct difference between the girls in the Miss America system versus the Miss USA system. There a few who participate in both systems but overall theres a distinct difference.
The judges for the competition were
Ciara, Gabby Douglas, Mark Cuban, Sara Foster, Cole Swindell, Sharlene Wells Hawkes.
I’m not a fan of how they narrowed it down, it left girls on the stage and looking dumb. I say pick your top 10 and 5, have them all perform and have all 5 answer the question. I guess they are tying to distinguish themselves from Miss USA. Additionally the show had entirely too many darn commercials.
The opening number dresses were hideous, I literally couldn’t stand them and their evening gowns were definitely lacking in the wow department. There was literally maybe 2 gowns that I liked.
The talent portion was great. I always applaud these ladies in this system when it comes to performing talent because it is not an easy task. I personally stay away from pageants that require a talent. Although now I do not think I’ll be able to completely avoid it.
Final Question was tough as nails. First of all you only had 20 seconds to answer the question and I personally think that’s extremely tough to do. Secondly I’m so pissed that majority of the ladies got political questions. Apparently the Miss America Organization came up with the questions and they completely sucked.
South Carolina-Do you believe that America has an immigration problem? ( I liked the answer that she gave. She rocked those 20 seconds)
Mississippi- Fox just paid a 20 million dollar settlement for sexual harassment, what do you think that says about the company ( Her answer was decent, once again pretty good for only having 20 seconds)
Washington- Do you sit with Colin Kapaernick or stand against him ( She absolutely nailed her answer and I’m so here for it )
Maryland- How would you grade the media on their election coverage ( She straight up did not answer the question, she did not focus on the media at al)
New York- What do you think of Donald J Trump. ( She did not really say what she thought of trump, and gave a generic answer. I swear I hate this party of pageantry because some girls are afraid to really speak up and answer the question from the heart but instead they give an answer that they think the judges wan to hear)
Arkansas- What do you think of Hillary R Clinton (She did not say what she thought of Hillary, she spoke on the media, )
Texas- What is one thing the new president should do to protect us? ( Her answer was pretty good, she answered the question.)
The winner received at $50,000 scholarship along with a 6 figure salary and was Miss Arkansas.
first runner-up, winning a $25,000 scholarship, was Miss South Carolina, Rachel Wyatt.
second runner-up, winning $20,000, was Miss New York, Camille Sims; the
third runner-up, winning $15,000, was Miss Washington, Alicia Cooper, and the
fourth runner-up, winning $10,000, was Miss Miss Mississippi, Laura Lee Lewis.
