Everyone’s favorite AWKWARD BLACK GIRL is back on our television/smart device screens thanks to HBO. Season 2 of INSECURE premiered 23 July 2017 and episode 1 of season 2 definitely left us wanting more. This was mainly due to the fact that the episodes are still only 30 minutes long. Really HBO, come on now we are past the initial start up phase, it’s a known fact that we love the show therefore 30 minutes is not long enough to quench our thirst for INSECURE. Yo Issa and HBO can y’all work on that and give the people what they want ( more of INSECURE)
What makes INSECURE so much better for me is that I got to see and hear Issa Rae speak in person early this month at the Essence Music Festival and she’s phenomenal just as I knew she would be.
In this episode Issa continues to deal with her breakup from Lawrence. She tries to get him to come over to her apartment so she could give off the impression that she was doing “HELLA GREAT” and he would possibly want her back. You know how the saying goes, ” your exes always want you back when you are doing good without them” When that is not the case with Issa
Molly’s character highlighted that within her workplace as a lawyer she was making less money than her mail counterparts who had the same exact job as her. This is a painful reality that women are stil fighting in modern day society. When Molly complains about seeing this white n*ggas paycheck it just reminded me the various ways that the N word is used within the black community. Basically anyone can be a n*gga no matter the skin complexion. That’s only because we are not using it in a harmful way its just apart of our vocabulary.
LAUGHABLE MOMENTS DURING THE SHOW
-During the episode when ole girl hit Lawerence with the ZADDY, I couldn’t help but laugh, that was absolutely so cliche. I’m happy he didn’t yell out ZOMMY back at her (awkward)
-Watching Issa practice how she was going to present Lawrence with his Jury Duty letter was quite hilarious, especially the scene where she said “here’s your duty and jury booty” ?? which was the epitome of LAME but still overall funny
-The you BUTE and thick comment caught me off guard
I will take a wild guess that BUTE equals black and cute.
The episode ending with Lawrence finally stopping by to get his mail. On his way out the door he kisses Issa, snatches his pants down and proceeded to have sex with Issa. Which appeared to be some really sucky sex because it was over with in 30 seconds and 20 thrusts later. I feel as if this scene will set Issa back and give her false hope that she does not need in her life and seriously Lawrence what kind of hit it and quit bull crap was that.
Remember you can do anything if you put your back into it ( another funny yet awkward show quote from this episode )
