On Monday 6 March 2017, Dr. Ben Carson decided to disrespect my ancestors and your ancestors as well by making the following statement.
‘There were other immigrants who came in the bottom of slave ships, who worked even longer, even harder, for less”
Just for clarification Dr. Carson mentioned slave ship therefore these so called none existent immigrants that he speaks of must be my ancestors from Africa. I think it is safe to make that assumption.
Let us first begin by reviewing the definition of an immigrant. An immigrant is a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country. In the definition when it refers to come that means freely on one’s own terms. Not abducted, kidnapped, stolen, or taken against ones free will which are all things that happened to the ancestors of African Americans in this country. Dr. Carson when you stated “came in the bottom of slave ships” lets be clear on a few things. They came over chained to the bottom of ships. Chained to one another where they were forced to lie in vomit, blood, urine, and feces for weeks at a time. Lets not forget the fact that on these ships my ancestors were whipped, beaten, raped, broken, and murdered.
Additionally upon arriving to this country they were treated as property and sold off like cattle. There was no working hard to achieve the American Dream, there was obeying and doing what you were told so that you could live and see another day. Therefore do not sugar coat what is the dark painful history of this country and my people.
So no I will not let you disrespect all that my ancestors went through by merely stating they were immigrants, as if they chose to come to this country. By stating they were immigrants who worked hard when in reality they were not even considered a whole person but only worth three fifth. I will not let you preach to the masses the foolishness of my ancestors working hard when in reality they worked so they and their loved ones could see another day.
Dr. Ben Carson how dare you disrespect the legacy and history of African Americans in this country sir. Slaves were taken from their land and had their culture and family snatched away right in front of them. I need you to take a look in the mirror and come out of that sucken place you are in and face reality.
You are a phenomenal doctor but outside of the medical realm you have continuously been a disappointment to the black community and that is why sir the black delegation is so done with you and your foolishness.
