#BlackGirlMagic continues to shine in the Tennis world Sloane Stephens wins the 2017 U.S Open

The American Women’s Tennis scene has been dominated by women who last names happen to be Williams. Venus and Serena Williams have been the face of the U.S Tennis world for the past decade. Venus is still out here doing great things, while Serena recently gave birth to a baby girl. Recently Venus Williams was defeated in the semi finals of the U.S Open by 24-year-old Sloane Stephens. Sloane went on to win the Women’s U.S open Title on 9 September 2017 defeating Madison Keys another African American woman 6-3, 6-0.

I am just ecstatic that this final featured to BLACK WOMEN. I mean of course we have had our Williams sisters final but it’s even more amazing to see Black women dominate even more. I mean the entire world can get this #BLACKGIRLMAGIC. Now the real question is can the world handle it.

Sloane is the first woman in 15 years to win a major Grand Slam Single title who’s last name happens to not be Williams. Shoutout to the Williams for establishing such a dominating legacy. The last American woman to win a major title who was not Venus or Serena was Jennifer Capriati in 2002 when she won the Australian Open. No other woman has won the U.S Open with a 6-0 Chris Evert did it in 1976.

Sloane has been recovering from an ankle injury the past few months and was ranked 957th six weeks ago.

With this win, Sloane joins and elite group of Black Women who have won the U.S Open. ( Althea Gibson, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, and Sloane Stephens).

Congratulations on your first GRAND SLAM win Sloane, I look forward to watching and cheering you on throughout your journey in the Tennis World. Continue to make Black Women and American Women Proud you are absolutely amazing Sloane.

Remember To Always Be

Fierce and Fabulous
