Almost Christmas *movie review*

Christmas and the holiday season fall very high on my list of favorite things. Therefore I adore Christmas movies, especially ones centered around the Black Family. When I first saw the preview for “Almost Christmas” along with the cast line up I knew it was going to be a good one. The movie focuses on a black family who reunites for Christmas. This Christmas is a bit different because the backbone of the family, their beloved mother has passed away. In her spot we have her wild and crazy sister played by Mo’Nique who aims to bring the family together while also keeping the audience entertained.

Here are my thoughts from the movie. If you were not tracking “Almost Christmas” is a comedy and laughter is exactly what I needed after spending 2 days mourning over the results of the 2016 Presidential Election. I am not a person to laugh easily, but “Almost Christmas” won me over and got the job done. Mo’Nique definitely kept me laughing with her loud and crazy outbursts.

Danny Glover (aka Mister from the Color Purple) plays the father in the family. Yall I have an issue. Once I see you in a role you are permanently that character to me. The Color Purple is my favorite movie so I’ve seen Mister dog Celie out one too many times to count. Initially, I struggled with accepting Danny Glover as the good guy in this movie. Danny will always be whack behind Mister to me, but in this movie he did a stellar job portraying a caring father and grandfather.

Like with any black family there’s the usual drama mixed with the typical bickering and arguing. Hey you got to keep the people entertained and honestly no family is perfect, but like with everything else the family comes together and are able to pull off a successful loving holiday season. Go check the movie out, support the cast and get ready to laugh your butts off.
